Using Bleach Around Your Cat

Getting a litter box clean after a while of use can be a pain, and pretty smelly of a task. Bleach is a common household item and most people think it will kill ANYTHING and that means odors, too. And it pretty much will, but it’s not always a good idea to use bleach around animals or on animal products unless it’s extremely diluted.

If bleach is combined with a cat’s urine (ammonia) it can create a noxious gas.

So whenever you go about thoroughly cleaning your cat’s litter box where there may be traces of urine, make sure to use a cat safe soap first to clean it as well as you can and then use the diluted bleach if necessary.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to our pets!
