I’ve always read articles that say cats will sleep anywhere – crook and crannies, on top of things, hanging from things, under things, IN things… and I’ve found it to be VERY true. My cat is not picky where she sleeps, it’s like she is doing something and plops down in the middle of it and falls asleep. Her favorite spot is normally in the house where a lamp or light is on, directly under the heat.

Outside it’s normally deep in a bush among the shade (no one wants to sleep in the direct sunlight here in Florida…)

Getting your pet cat his or her own bed isn’t necessary but I am sure they will use that, too! That, or they will take and/or share the dog’s bed…

A bed is nice because it tells your cat where you WANT it to sleep. But from my experience, they will use other places too. Any throw blanket makes a nice place, or the nicely folded laundry since it’s still warm from the dryer.

My cat seems to find anything to lay ON in the middle of nothing. If there is a piece of paper in the room, she will sleep on that.

Cats know the meaning of cat naps and will take full advantage of it. I find it nice because I love when my cat sleeps with me at night. I tend to be cold… all the time… and my cat helps me warm up and feel loved at the same time!

I think it’s more about where you DON’T want your cat to sleep and making it as uncomfortable as possible so they are not so encouraged to use that spot.

One of the many reasons my cat sleeps on my desk is because we are working there and will randomly give her attention just for being there. We’re reinforcing her with attention which she loves so she always comes back but only sleeps there if we’re there working.

So feel free to provide your cat a place to sleep (its own bed) but don’t expect it to ONLY sleep there!
