It’s hard for us to let go and allow our cat to do what it wants to, instead of forcing our wants and needs onto the cat. But when we do let go and stop forcing the cat under the blanket to cuddle until it finds another way out, then the cat feels less pressure to spend time with you and will start coming to you for lap time.

The biggest mistakes you can make are to MAKE your cat cuddle especially when he/she is eating, playing or enjoying something completely incompatible with cuddling.

My cat prefers to cuddle with my husband whenever we watch TV together. I tell myself it’s because he’s bigger than me so there’s more to lay on! But I don’t truly know the reason. Maybe because I move around too much? Who knows. But when it comes to bed time, or if I am truly down, she will seek me out to comfort me and she ALWAYS sleeps with me at night. So we both get our time and our share of her love.

Do I get jealous he is her cuddle partner for movies? Sure do! Does he get jealous she sleeps with me at night? Heck yeah! But we accept what she does give and make sure not to force our love on her. Otherwise you’re just another Peppe la Pew! And we all know how that story goes…
