Naming Your Cat

When I found out what the top most popular names are for cats, I felt ashamed because I was being pretty darn original. But hey, aren’t we all?

I begged my parents to let me name my gray cat “Smokey” but apparently we had already had a cat named Smokey and he was hit by a car, and my mom told me if we named this new cat Smokey, that he would die the same way.

Scared me right out of it!

So the cat was named Tommy, like my mom wanted. And we called him TC for short (for “Tom Cat”).

The top (male) cat names are:

  1. Max
  2. Tigger
  3. Tiger
  4. Smokey

Of course, my dog’s name is Max, I had a kitten (orange of course) named Tigger and no connection to Tiger but that makes 3 out of 4 for me!

Ah, I’m such a statistic!

Top 10 male cat names are:

  1. Max
  2. Buddy
  3. Jake
  4. Rocky
  5. Bailey
  6. Buster
  7. Cody
  8. Charlie
  9. Bear
  10. Jack

Out of those I’ve used “bear” and “buster”. Onto the female cat names…

Top female cat names:

  1. Molly
  2. Maggie
  3. Daisy
  4. Lucy
  5. Sadie
  6. Ginger
  7. Chloe
  8. Bailey
  9. Sophie
  10. Zoe

The only name I think we have that we’re proud of is our black cat named “Ninja”. I’ve always thought that is the best name ever. But alas, I can’t even take credit for it because she was named before we got her! Darn!

I wish you more creativity in your search than I have. Some names off the top of my head not directly at the top of these lists were “Hymie” (my name in Spanish), “Ashes”, “Peanut”, “Morris” (last names are always good and fairly original.)
