Many cat owners have problems with their cats eating their house plants, and it pretty much ruins them. First of all, the reason why your cat is doing this is the same reason cats eat grass when they go outside.
Myths about grass eating:
- It’s to purposely make the cat puke up hair balls
- Add roughage to their diet
- Gets rid of stomach ache/toxins and/or poisons
Those just aren’t true.
Cats eat grass for the folic acid grass contains. It’s essential for cats to have folic acid (which is a vitamin). Without it, it can literally stunt your cat’s growth and even cause anemia.
So what’s the solution if you only have an indoor cat who doesn’t get any fresh lawn grass?
You can get some grass growing trays at pet store chains or even online and grow your cat its very own little garden of edible grass! If that sounds like a little over the top of you, you can always look up folic acid supplements to add to your cat’s diet.
